#6: Social Media Awareness

A position on Crossroads Summer Staff comes with great responsibility. We believe the Lord has uniquely prepared and equipped you to be part of this camp. As a staffer, you immediately step into the position of mentor and role model for thousands of campers that will come through Anderson & Boiling Springs this summer. They're looking at you and following you, which means your actions matter- both in-person and online. These students will sift through social media to find you.

What will they find?

We encourage you now to look through your online presence with a fresh lens, consider your representation and, if needed, clean it up.

  • What's your tone (i.e. negative/condescending, positive/encouraging)?

  • Do you have political posts? In a position like ours, sometimes it's best not to share, post, or participate in political debates on social media.

  • Are your pictures/images appropriate & modest? You can count on campers scrolling through your history. Archive, if necessary!

  • It might sound silly, but would your social media profiles pass the "mom test"?

In the same respect, summertime will bring rich new friendships among our staff. Consider your posts with one another:

  • Is your post inclusive or exclusive?

  • How will your words/images make other staffers feel?

  • Intentionally or unintentionally, are you potentially creating a clique?

I'd highly recommend reading a book called 12 Ways Your Phone is Changing You by Tony Reinke. It was a game-changer for me in how I view the way I use my phone. Please take time to read it! (I personally used an app called Hoopla and listened to the audio version).

SOME THINGS TO PRAY FOR:

Pray that God would align your heart and social media with His will.

Pray that your social media would be a vessel for the gospel!
